Bartnbeans Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 Hi I new to the forum and know this is an old thread but I'm having this very issue I have power to everything but the car won't turn over I can also hear the loud click from under the bonnet when turning the key, i have also noticed there is no engine light on the dash? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Bartnbeans Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 Can someone point me In the direction for a better forum where I might get some help on this? Quote
dlt1617 Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 You might get a better responce if you introduced yourself and actually put a note on you post of the age and model. If you hear a loud click from under the bonnet I would get someone to turn the key whilst you have your hand on the soleniod on the starter motor. If you feel the click on the solenoid it could be a faulty starter. The engine warning light could be completely unrelated to the starting problem but more details of the vehicle would help! Bartnbeans Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 Hi thanks for the reply its a 2001 y reg and it's a 2.3 petrol. Yeah I do hear a loud click but there's nothing else not even trying to start ?? Driving me mad. Cheers Quote
dlt1617 Posted November 24, 2012 Report Posted November 24, 2012 Hi have you checked the starter motor as I mention i.e hand on it when someone turns the key? Also what is the battery condition like? I've had cases in the past where the battery was high enough to put the ignition lights on as normal but not enough to turn the starter so trying with jump leads on might help. If the battery is ok and the click is from the starter it could be the drive on the end of the starter has failed so remove the starter and check the end of it. I had a Mk1 2.3 (now got a Mk2 1.9tdi) and had the starter of it due to failure and from what I remember it's a straight forward job. Dave Quote
